BONFIRE NIGHT SAFETY – OSWESTRY FIRE STATION
As we enjoy Bonfire Night, we want everyone to have a fun evening and, most importantly, stay safe! Here are a few simple safety reminders to help keep you, your family and your community safe.
BONFIRES - Keep your bonfire a safe and manageable size for the space you have. - Keep it well away from buildings, fences and overhanging trees. - Never leave a bonfire unattended and make sure it is fully extinguished afterwards. - Always have firefighting media with you, be that a hose, buckets of water etc.
FIREWORKS - Wherever possible, attend an organised fireworks display. - Fireworks have a minimum safety distance printed on the packaging – please read and stick to it. - Light fireworks at arm's length and stand well back. - Never return to a firework once it has been lit, even if it appears not to have gone off. - Keep pets and other animals safely away from fireworks wherever possible.
SPARKLERS & YOUNG CHILDREN - Always supervise children closely when using sparklers. - Wear gloves and eye protection where possible. - A useful tip for little hands is to carefully place the handle end of the sparkler into a carrot. This can make it easier for young children to hold and increases the distance between their hands and the hot end. - Once finished, place used sparklers into a bucket of cold water. Never leave them lying on the ground, as they can remain extremely hot for some time.
A little preparation and a few simple precautions can make a big difference. Enjoy Bonfire Night, stay safe and look after each other! From everyone at Oswestry Fire Station
