A scorching week… but its Friday |

This week we have been out sorting Anti Social Behaviour issues, arresting and interviewing suspects of crime and visiting vulnerable places and people. Not so commonly I had to deal with an unexploded ordnance being found in an un occupied address. The bomb squad was called to Ismere Way in the Broadwaters area and a street was evacuated. Luckily this turned out not to be dangerous and the bomb squad handled it swiftly. Thank you to all in the street that worked with us.
It has been a very hot week so you may not have seen me on foot patrol this week, but I have been out. I have patrolled Brintons Park chatting to a few people. I was meant to be at the Birchen Coppice School summer fayre today, but unfortunately got dragged away to a job and arrested a male wanted by West Midlands Police, this then took up all my afternoon. It is the nature of the job, but I apologise to anyone who wanted to talk to me or have a photo with the uniform on… which is more likely. I hope the event went well and you all had a good time.
You said we did: I have had messages about anti social bikes. Patrols have been increased in areas we know have the most issues but we need your help to give names and addresses of offenders. This can be shared by replying to this message, online reporting or Crime stoppers. Unfortunately chasing down these people on bikes and scooters can be verry dangerous for all road users and pedestrians so your help is vital, with details of perpetrators, addresses, times and places. Thank you. Report a crime | West Mercia Police CrimeStoppers Most Wanted: Help Solve Crimes by Providing Information | Crimestoppers
Unfortunately I have attended a crash, this week, between an illegal throttle propelled bicycle and a van. Luckily the child was not seriously injured but had some nasty bruises. The van driver was arrested for failing to stop and driving whilst disqualified. The investigation continues. Please make sure your children are wearing helmets when out on bikes and make sure you know the rules around electric bikes! Just because your children want one and their friends have them doesn’t make them safe.
Keep that sun cream topped up, get that BBQ flaming and enjoy the weekend! Enjoy the football, if that’s your thing, Fingers crossed (don’t drink too much and causes issues though). I will be back on Tuesday 14th July 2026 and look forward to seeing you all where I can, with me possibly melting in the heat.
Some fun facts for the week:
Yesterday was It's the eighth day this year that temperatures have passed 34C (93F) somewhere in the UK - that's a new record, beating the seven days in 1976 and 2020 (From BBC). I think today may have been the ninth day. Helpful advice - To stay cool quickly, target pulse points like the wrists and neck. Apply cold, damp towels or ice packs to these areas to rapidly lower your core temperature. For long-term cooling, stay hydrated with water, wear loose cotton or linen clothing, and keep windows and blinds closed during the hottest part of the day Frozen Socks: Stuffing your socks with dry rice, tying them off, and throwing them in the freezer makes for a delightfully moldable, sweat-trapping ice pack Not sure about these ones but… Beat the heat with a few bizarre, counter-intuitive, and surprisingly effective tricks. For example, eating spicy foods or drinking hot coffee actually makes you sweat more, setting up your very own natural evaporative cooling system… MORE SWEAT? I’m not sure that’s what anyone wants.
Cats spend an average of 15 hours a day sleeping, which means a 9-year-old cat has only actually been awake for about 3 years of its life!
