As part of our response to talking violence against woman & girls (VAWG), a ‘Walk & Talk’ initiative has been launched in Telford. The Walk & Talk event provides a safe and supportive environment for people to come together, share experiences, and highlight the importance of tackling violence against women and girls. If you would like to arrange a Walk and Talk with your local Safer Neighbourhood Team, please email walkandtalk@westmercia.police.uk
Operation Presence During the busy Christmas and New Year period, We ran Operation Christmas Presence, where Police officer’s, police staff and partner agencies were on duty to help keep people safe on the busiest nights of the year. With extra people out celebrating during the run up to Christmas, officers were present in mobile police stations and visiting licensed premises across Telford to make sure the night-time economy remains as safe as possible, ensuring a safer night out for all. This was well received by businesses and people enjoying the festivities. This is an operation that we will continue to run every year.
Ride Along Scheme Do you have an interest in policing? Thinking of a career in policing or simply wish to find out more about what we do? Our Ride Along Scheme gives you an opportunity to follow a police officer on shift. You will accompany a local neighbourhood officer on patrol and experience first-hand their work to resolve issues or concerns in the local area. You'll get an insight into what it’s like to be a police officer on shift and an opportunity to experience an unrivalled view of front-line policing. The aim of the scheme is for us to strengthen relationships with the public and help people understand more about what we do and how we police. As age restrictions apply, unfortunately if you are aged 17 or under, you will not be able to apply for the ride along scheme
Personal safety app launched across West Mercia The force has launched WalkSafe, a personal safety app which aims to help people feel more confident when enjoying a night out. WalkSafe is available to people across Shropshire and provides users with a list of safety-trained venues, including bars, restaurants and other premises that meet recognised standards through schemes such as Licensed Security & Vulnerability Initiative (LSAVI) and Best Bar None. The app also allows people to plan their route home, share their journey with trusted friends or family and make use of an SOS alert button if they feel unsafe. The introduction of WalkSafe supports ongoing work to improve safety in public spaces, particularly for women and girls. WalkSafe is backed by West Mercia’s Police and Crime Commissioner and is funded through the Home Office. It will be available all year round. The number of safety-trained venues featured on the app is continuing to grow as more premises come on board. If licensed venues are already accredited through Best Bar None or LSAVI, or would like more information about being included, please contact your local Safer Neighbourhood Team. The WalkSafe app is free to download from the Apple App Store and Google Play, just search for WalkSafe. Sign up to Neighbourhood Matters … your community messaging service The service allows the public to keep in touch with their local policing teams. You can choose exactly what type of alert you wish to receive and how you receive them, whether that be by email, text or telephone. Sign up now at: www.neighbourhoodmatters.co.uk | ||
