Wildlife Crime Alert – Help Us Protect Our Countryside - Op Passenger

Dear Residents,

Wildlife Crime Alert – Help Us Protect Our Countryside - Op Passenger

Your local policing team is committed to tackling wildlife crime, which continues to have a devastating impact on our rural communities, ecosystems, and protected species.

We’re urging residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to:

Hare Coursing – The illegal pursuit of hares with dogs, often involving trespass, criminal damage, and intimidation.

Poaching – The unlawful hunting or capturing of deer, fish, or game, often linked to organised crime.

Lamping – The use of powerful lights to dazzle and hunt animals at night, frequently carried out without landowner permission.

These crimes are not only cruel but often involve trespassing, damage to property, and threats to public safety.

 What You Can Do:

Report suspicious vehicles, especially 4x4s parked in rural areas or near farmland.
Note down registration numbers, locations, and times.
Do not approach suspects – call 999 if a crime is in progress or 101 to report non-urgent concerns.

 Our Advice:

Landowners: Secure gates, install signage, and consider trail cameras.
Farmers: Join local rural watch schemes and share intelligence with neighbours.
Everyone: Stay informed and help us protect our wildlife.
Together, we can make our countryside a safer place for all.
