Operation Aurora - Speed enforcement activity Broseley, Much Wenlock and Astley Abbots

Road safety concerns, in particular speeding, are consistently raised by our local communities.

Inspector Kelly and PCSO Scott spent yesterday afternoon conducting speed enforcement in three locations.  Firstly, in Much Wenlock on Bridgnorth road.  Out of the vehicles checked the average speed was recorded at 24.48mph.  Nobody was found to be driving above the 30mph limit.

In Broseley, five drivers completely disregarded the 30mph speed limit.  An overall average speed of 32.26 was recorded during the activity but the speeds of 35mph, 39mph, 40mph and 43mph will have consequences.  If prosecuted for speeding, the minimum penalty is a £100 fine and 3 penalty points.

Alarmingly whilst we were monitoring, one rider decided to overtake and they were recorded travelling at 50mph.  This is an area of heavy footfall, with crossroads and a pedestrian crossing.  The motorcycle was stopped a little further down the road, the rider spoken to and a Traffic Offence Report was issued.

Last but not least was Astley Abbots on High Cross Lane, this is a 40mph limit. The highest recorded speed was 44mph with an overall average speed of 35.45.

Speeding can have a devastating impact on the safety of road users, increasing the risk of a collision and endangering lives.

Speeding is one of the main priorities from our local parish councils and we will continue in these initiatives to make our communities safer.

Enforcing the speed limit is a 24/7 activity for us so don’t risk it.
