Shoplifting arrest

Good Morning,

An arrest has been made yesterday following a call from CO-OP in Church Stretton reporting a shoplifter becoming aggressive and then leaving with stolen goods.

Sergeant PRICE was out looking for the perpetrator straight away, following a good search of the area the reported shoplifter was found close by. A search of this person had us find the stolen items and they were subsequently arrested and taken to custody. Overall a good and timely result!

We understand the impact shoplifting can have on local businesses - from the financial loss to the intimidation and frustration these offenders can impart.

Your local Safer Neighbourhood team are passionate about making sure shoplifters and thieves are not welcome in this community. To carry on with this goal we need your help -

  • Please keep vigilant and report every instance of shoplifting to so we can allocate resources appropriately
  • If you are a shop owner/worker, look at your floors layout - are there lots of valuable items close to the door? Are there many blind spots where staff cant see?
  • If you see someone shoplifting report this straight away on 999 as there is a crime in progress
  • Do not confront shoplifters as its best not to put yourself in a position of risk
  • Instead pass as much information to Police - describe the offender with their personal features and clothing, tell us which way they went when they left, tell us what it was they stole and how they were transporting it, were they on foot or in a vehicle? Do you know who they are?
  • If you have CCTV make sure you are familiar with how its used, save any relevant footage, make a note of whether the time is correct - if not note down by how much
  •

As ever, thank you for working with us to reduce crime and keeping the community safe
