Man sentenced for possession of firearm and drug dealing

An Alvechurch man has been sentenced to 10 years for possessing a firearm and ammunition and drug dealing offences following a warrant earlier this year.

Kane Brough, 25, of Withybed Close, Alvechurch was sentenced at Worcester Crown Court on Thursday 21 November in relation to a raid at his home on 11 May.

Officers executed the warrant at around 11.30pm, and outside they found a Ford Connect van linked to his address.

Inside the van was a rucksack with a converted firearm together with two blank cartridges, one of which was identified as viable ammunition.

Also found in the rear of the van were large quantities of cocaine and cannabis, scales and other paraphernalia consistent with a drugs supply enterprise.

Brough was arrested at an address in Redditch shortly after and charged with multiple offences on 12 May.

On Thursday he was found guilty of possession of a class A drug – cocaine with intent to supply for which he was sentenced to four years imprisonment; possession of a class B drug – cannabis with intent to supply for which he was given 18 months to run concurrently.

Brough was handed a further consecutive sentence of five years six months for possession of the ammunition of two bullets without holding a firearms certificate contrary to the Firearms Act 1968.

He was also guilty of possessing ammunition which incorporated a missile designed or was adapted to expand on impact contrary to the Firearms Act 1968, possession of a firearm which had a barrel of less than 30cm contrary to the Firearms Act 1968 and possession of a firearm without holding a firearm certificate contrary to the Firearms Act 1968.

There were no separate penalties for these three offences, but he was handed a further six-month sentence to run consecutively for breaching a suspended sentence order, bringing his total term to 10 years.
