Appeal for CCTV and Witnesses - Death of Swan

Good Evening Resident,

Upon my return to duty this morning I was extremely saddened to read that on Thursday 25th April, another Swan was discovered to have been severely injured, just 2 weeks before the anniversary of last year's incident. This time the swan had injuries to the neck, leg and body as well as the head. The swan was spotted by our Friends of Avon Meadows who promptly called Vale Wildlife Hospital. The hospital were able to recover the swan from the water but unfortunately later that day, the swan died from its injuries. Vale Wildlife Hospital believe these injuries to be caused by being shot with a type of air weapon, which is consistent with last years incident also.

If anyone has any CCTV that covers any part of Avon Meadows, please review for any suspicious activity prior to 9am on the 25th April, and send to us at pershoretown.snt@westmercia.police.uk if your CCTV has captured anything that may be of use. Also if anyone witnessed anything suspicious around that time within the vicinity of Avon Meadows, we urge you to make contact.

Pershore SNT have been patrolling Avon Meadows and the Wetlands and we will continue to do so over the coming weeks. We are working with partner agencies including the Town Council to see if there is anything that can be done to deter this horrible act from happening again. We have also put it in our diaries to conduct anniversary patrols next year.

If you witness anything suspicious at the Avon Meadows, please report on 101 or 999 as appropriate.

Thank you,

PC 21550 Amy Hunt
